Our approach

We offer a diverse range of training, growth, and upskilling opportunities – everything from tailored short courses to industry accreditation and structured, custom-built, online and in-person development programs.

Tertiary education

Empower encourages employees to continue to develop their skills through professional development. Employees may choose to upgrade their current skill sets or pursue a new discipline through tertiary study in areas such as civil engineering, accounting, law, business administration, human resources and marketing.

Traineeships and apprenticeships

Empower supports and encourages site-based personnel to further their development by offering apprenticeships and traineeships in Civil Construction and Workplace Health and Safety. Programs available include Certificate 3 and 4 in Civil Construction, comprising of pipe laying, road construction and maintenance, and bridge construction and maintenance.

Chartered Status for engineers

In conjunction with Engineers Australia, Empower provides our people with a structured program of professional development to achieve Chartered Status – the pinnacle accreditation for engineers being an internationally recognised measure of excellence.

Chartered Status is applicable to all forms of engineering work and opens doors for further opportunities at Empower.

We’re proud to be an industry leader in professional development and this agreement with Engineers Australia is an important investment in the careers of our engineers.

Fortitude program

The BMD Group’s Fortitude Program is designed to grow the skills of identified emerging leaders throughout our business units. Delivered over 18 months across five modules, this specialised program helps take participants’ careers to the next level to become innovative thinkers, supportive and empathetic managers, and dynamic leaders.

Evolve program

The BMD Group’s Evolve initiative is a carefully curated program of learning delivered through a series of workshops, each focused on unique elements of interpersonal intelligence and how they support leadership and our teams. It’s a powerful professional development course aimed at cultivating a highly collaborative, and innovative workforce.

Parental leave

We support our employees as they begin or expand their families with 20 weeks of fully paid parental leave for primary carers, with the option of taking 40 weeks at half pay. For partners, we offer five days of partner parental leave.

TradeMutt and TIACS partnership

To provide mental health awareness and support to our people, BMD is a TradeMutt and TIACS Alliance partner, with TIACS offering industry relevant, free counselling available via text or phone call.

Employee Assistance Program

Our Employee Assistance Program provides employees and their immediate family members with six free counselling sessions per issue per year.
