Overview
Steve is a senior executive with over 30 years of international experience in the delivery of social and economic infrastructure. Prior to joining Empower as the Chair of the Board of the UK business, he was most recently the CEO of Downer New Zealand, responsible for three business streams (Utilities, Transport and Facilities) with a combined revenue of $3 billion New Zealand Dollars (£1.5b GBP) and over 10,000 employees.
Steve is passionate about infrastructure delivery and his recent experience has focussed on the benefits of effective governance and establishment of large-scale and complex projects.
Steve believes that good outcomes result from a collaborative approach through all stages of feasibility, design, construction and maintenance. He has been at the forefront of work to formalise collaborative approaches including alignment of process and culture. His work on the organisational design and mobilisation for the infrastructure recovery post the Christchurch earthquakes, earned international recognition and resulted in an award of the Brunel medal. It is this collaborative approach that has allowed Steve to contribute to wider sector initiatives, including support of industry initiatives to improve physical and mental safety, inclusion, positive social outcomes and decarbonisation.
Steve is currently heavily engaged on Sizewell C New Nuclear build in the UK, where he has provided a number of services to support the mega project including:
