About the project

Empower was engaged by BMD to provide all necessary design assistance to deliver the upgrade of Chambers Flat Road. The completed upgrade took the existing road from an undivided road, up to a divided carriageway dual lane arterial road, with 2 signalised intersections, providing much greater level of safety.

Scope

The project’s scope included managing design sub consultants including surveying, services location, specialist pavement, traffic and signals. Empower employed an iterative design process through the various deliverables of the project. This refinement of options surrounding areas of risk and opportunity across the project enabled BMD and the end client to make clear decisions on the project’s direction.

Outcomes

The project was delivered under budget due to the value engineering measures taken, enabling the client to add in additional scope.

Careful consideration of potential differential movement was required in areas of deep fill over existing extended reinforced concrete box culverts.

The use of synthetic geotextiles allowed for the reduction in pavement quantities and the reduction in construction program.
