Fens and Lincoln Reservoirs
About the project
The emerging design of the Fens reservoir features a lagoon in the north–west of the reservoir where water levels would largely remain consistent. The use of excavated earth to create new landforms could provide a variety of different experiences for visitors. These could be open areas with long views across the Fenland landscape, places where people, nature and water all come together, while also supporting the natural environment.
The Fens Reservoir will supply 87 million litres a day to 250,000 homes in the driest region of the UK, and is scheduled to be completed by 2036. The Lincolnshire reservoir, would provide up to 166 million litres a day for up to 500,000 homes, is programmed to be completed by 2040.
Scope
Our team is providing Anglian Water with construction planning advice for the construction of the reservoirs, the transfer pipelines and the associated infrastructure. Working closely with Anglian Water and other consultants we are progressing towards preparation of a successful DCO Planning Application.
In addition to construction planning advice, we are advising on project definition, contracting strategies, public consultation and project governance, drawing on experience from other major infrastructure projects.
Outcomes
These will be the first major supply reservoirs to be built in the UK in over a generation requiring consideration of design, buildability, affordability and maintenance requirements. The enabling environmental works, earthworks methodology, production rates, the selection of plant and equipment, logistics, traffic, noise, supply of aggregates, construction programme and geotechnical advice to inform the design, drawing on experience from our staff in project in both Australia and the UK.
